The Question

As if there were any that mattered

TOPICS: TOP OF LIST, FROM THE WIRES, THE ONE NEEDING ANSWERED

Abstract: Some imagine there are many questions that matter, but if there are no existential concerns for humanity, then by comparison to asking if we can persist, there are no questions that really matter if our progress and prosperity is assumed.

COOS BAY (A-P) — I asked 100 people: While there are nigh on an infinite number of questions, for humans living in the early 21st century, what is the single most important question to ask and find an answer to?

If humans just keep on keeping on getting better and better, growing, developing, prospering on Earth, then in our Solar System, then on our Dyson sphere, then in nearby solar systems and on out into our galaxy before spreading to galactic clusters and beyond to inhabit trillions of other galaxies, then there are no questions that matter, no questions of existential concern because there are none.

Since only questions of existential concern could really matter, the question is: Are there any existential concerns facing humanity? If humans expand into the cosmos, filling the universe with wonder at our accomplishments, all other lifeforms may have existential concerns, but not humans.

Look around using the highest power telescopes. See any Dyson spheres? See any galaxies that have been turned into infrared emitters because all suns are surrounded by Dyson spheres? Humans will go forth and into a cosmos for the taking.

The rate of growth is limited, but for 300 years it has been non-stop. Who could believe that in the next 3,000 years humans will not cure aging and conquer all diseases? We may find a cure for overaging in the next 30 years. Everyone will have the freedom to stop aging when they want to and remain in near perfect health, able to have children whenever they want to. Earth's Dyson sphere could easily growth faster than the population could fill it, but it won't need to and so will grow just as fast as we want it too.

When Earth's Dyson sphere is complete, there will be a pause as it is converted by bots into spore ships able to take all inhabitants in a suspended state to a new solar system to keep growing and developing, and prospering, forever and ever in growth everlasting.

How wonderful will be our development? We will encounter others, and we will assimilate and preserve their essence. We of the 21st century could not imagine our wonderfulness, so why ask? Just enjoy the show and help grow the economy.

All these galaxies are yours for the taking.

PS: I asked the question on Quora, so I did not answer it there, and no one offered the correct answer: How do we rapidly contract our population and per capita consumption?
